Registration Frequently Asked Questions

Can I pay my registration fees in installments?
Yes you can pay your registration in installments. When you register online you can choose installments,  you will be prompted to make an initial payment of $100 per child and the rest will be divided equally at the end of each month until November 30, 2024.

Is there financial support available to offset hockey registration fees?

The Fort McMurray Minor Hockey Association (FMMHA) believes that all children should have the opportunity to play hockey. We are dedicated to removing financial barriers to ensure that no child is turned away due to affordability.

As minor hockey costs continue to rise each year, it is important for families to feel comfortable seeking assistance if needed. FMMHA is committed to supporting families to ensure every child has the opportunity to participate in minor hockey.

If financial circumstances become a barrier to a child’s involvement, FMMHA is here to provide support. Resources are available to help support families with registration fees. More information can be found in our Financial Aid section.

Can I pay in person to avoid Teamsnap Fees?

Yes, you can make payments in various ways. You can visit our office to pay by cash, debit, or cheque. Alternatively, you can make an EFT payment to payments@fmmha.com. When making an EFT payment, please include your child's name in the memo/comment area.

To pay via EFT or in person, proceed to the CHECKOUT section where it asks for credit card information. Once there, email Roland at hockeyops@fmmha.com with your child's name and confirmation that you have sent the EFT payment.

If paying in person, you will still need to reach the CHECKOUT section so we can complete your registration.

Are there any additional costs to play hockey?

All players are required to supply their own gear, including practice jerseys.

There are no additional costs to play Recreation Hockey (WBHL) from FMMHA. However, WBHL teams may choose to participate in additional activities beyond registration, such as team gear, extra development, and tournaments. Teams will be required to build a team budget that includes a parent commitment fee as per the WBHL financial policy.

Players selected for Rep/travel teams will have additional fees to FMMHA for costs beyond registration, such as higher referee costs, additional ice time, extra equipment for travel teams, and league fees. These teams will also build a budget that will determine the fees as per the Travel financial policy. There will be parent sessions at the start of the season so everyone is aware of the financial commitments prior to committing to a team each season.

At the start of the season, each team is required to propose a budget to parents and conduct a vote to ensure the additional expenses are supported by the majority of families.

Am I required to fundraise?

FMMHA does not have mandatory fundraising requirements; however, teams may engage in fundraising events and activities throughout the season.

It is required by our financial directives that all teams offer a fundraising buyout option.

For players on Rep/travel teams, fundraising commitments are mandatory, if a parent chooses not to participate in fundraising or the buyout the player may be removed from the roster.

In Recreational Hockey (WBHL), if a parent chooses not to participate in fundraising or the buyout, their child will be excluded from any agreed-upon extracurricular activities, such as team gear, traveling to tournaments, or extra development opportunities.

Am I required to Volunteer?

Yes, we require five (5) hours of volunteer work per child for FMMHA. As a volunteer organization, this is crucial to keeping registration costs down. Failure to complete the required volunteer hours will result in an invoice of $100 for each hour not completed, potentially up to $500 per child.

Volunteer opportunities within the organization include coaching, managing, and helping with special events. In addition to the organizational commitment, there are team responsibilities you accept as a parent when registering your child for a team sport, such as managing jerseys and scorekeeping.

Volunteer levies are not charged upfront but invoiced at the end of each season and must be paid before a child can be placed on a roster for the following season. If your family is in an exceptional circumstance and cannot complete the required hours, we do offer support.

We don't want your money; we need your time to ensure that FMMHA events run successfully. Please visit the Volunteer Directive for more information.

What is your refund policy?

A full refund of the registration fee, less an administrative fee of $50, will be issued for any player who withdraws prior to August 15 of the current season.

After August 15, the following refund guidelines apply: Players who withdraw from formed rep teams, with approved budgets, remain responsible for fixed team expenses incurred up to the withdrawal date (excluding costs dependent on player participation).

We are NEW to hockey! How do I get an HCR number to register?

If you are new to hockey, you must take the ” Respect In Sport - Parent Edition (RIS)” online course and provide a copy of your player's birth certificate to register.

RESPECT IN SPORT: The fee for this course is $12.00 and it takes about an hour to complete.  This course expires after 4 years. Families that do not have this course will be unable to register online. Please ensure you select Fort McMurray as your home association. Go back to Child Management and a number will be beside your child's name, that is the number you need.  If you have completed Respect In Sport in another sport, you can transfer your certificate to FMMHA. Learn more.

Once you complete your Respect in Sport, you can link your PLAYER to your RIS account from their website.  This will auto generate them an HCR# (Hockey Canada Registry#). This is a unique identifying player number that will stay with them throughout their hockey career.

How can I register another child whom has not played before?

If you have another child already registered with the Respect in Sport Program, log into the account and add your new child and choose Fort McMurray as your Association, and that will generate a new Hockey Canada Hockey ID for your new
child.

The Hockey Canada Hockey ID is only digits and is 12-13 digits long.

How do I verify my Respect In Sport Parent is not expired?

They have a place to reset your password on their login page. If you are unsure of what email address you used, please search for any old emails from TeamSnap or login to your APP and see what your account email is.

Your child must be 5 before December 31, 2024 in order to register. We do accept children who are 4 by December 31, 2023 but there is a waiver that must be signed and agreed to in order for your child to start early. That waiver will be found when completing your registration with TeamSnap.
Does my child need to know how to skate?

No prior skating or hockey experience is necessary for any player to get started. Our players are grouped based on similar skill levels. The Intro to Hockey program focuses on developing individual skills, including hockey techniques. Our volunteer coaches provide engaging games and drills designed to have your player confidently navigating the ice in no time.
