WBHL Division Director

The WBHL Division Director is responsible for the coordination, communication, and overall support of teams within their assigned age division. This includes assisting with team operations, managing evaluations, supporting coaches, and ensuring adherence to FMMHA policies and Alberta One requirements.

As a key leadership position, the Division Director acts as the primary liaison between families, team staff, and the FMMHA Executive, helping to maintain consistency, fairness, and a positive experience for all participants within the WBHL program.

Estimated Time Commitment: 60–80 hours per month, with increased hours during evaluations, season start-up, and Hockey Alberta playdowns.

Collaborates with: VP Finance, Director of Managers, Head Coaches, Team Managers, Development Committee, Officials Committee, Special Events Committee and oversees Division Budget Chair

Travel Commitment:  None

Skills and Qualities

The ideal nominee will possess the following:

  • Strong Communication and Interpersonal Skills – Demonstrates diplomacy, negotiation, and the ability to collaborate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.

  • FMMHA Operational Knowledge – Has prior experience on an FMMHA operating committee and/or significant coaching or team management experience within the association.

  • Excellent Time Management – Capable of prioritizing tasks and managing a high volume of responsibilities, particularly during evaluations and season start-up.

  • Flexibility and Responsiveness – Willing and able to respond promptly to questions, concerns, and time-sensitive issues, especially during the tryout process.

  • Facilitation and Leadership Abilities – Confident in leading meetings and discussions with large groups of coaches, parents, and volunteers.

  • Technical Proficiency – Comfortable using essential digital tools including Gmail, Google Docs, SurveyMonkey, SignUpGenius, social media platforms, and TeamSnap.

Key Responsibilities:

Communication & Representation:

  • Act as the main point of contact for all teams in the Division.
  • Manage communication via the website, email, and social media (e.g., Facebook).
  • Represent the division at league meetings and liaise with tournament directors to resolve scheduling or participation issues.

Evaluations & Player Placement:

  • Coordinate and execute division evaluation process
  • Secure independent evaluators as needed and facilitate evaluation meetings with coaches to deliver fair and competitive team rosters
  • Support coaches in selecting Assistant Coaches and Team Managers

Ice & Scheduling:

  • Ensure fair distribution of game and practice ice.
  • Work closely with the Ice Allocator to resolve scheduling conflicts.

Team & League Operations:

  • Update and manage league stats on RAMP
  • Work with VP Ops on approval for player affiliations and submit details and communicate process to coaches
  • Facilitate discipline conversations involving teams, coaches, or players
  • Attend conflict resolution matters and participate in incident investigations when requested by the League Governor.
  • Work with team managers to get approved Hockey Alberta Rosters
  • Collaborate with the Development Committee to arrange specialized player development.
  • Organize and oversee division playoffs
  • Support teams in securing tournament opportunities and travel events
  • Oversee emergency Goaltending approval process
  • Coordinate Minor Hockey Week activities with MHW Committee
