The Goaltender Development program is committed to supporting the growth and long-term success of goaltenders within the WBHL stream. Through targeted training, thoughtful placement, and strong communication, this program creates a clear and supportive development pathway for all FMMHA goaltenders.

Skills and Qualities
The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following:

Experience coaching in minor hockey and a strong understanding of Hockey Canada’s development model.

A passion for developing goaltenders at all levels of play within the organization.

Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively with coaches, players, and other stakeholders.

Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and mentoring abilities.

Strong communication and organizational skills.

Ability to plan and coordinate coach-focused training and engagement initiatives through development partners.

Proficiency with online tools and platforms to share, manage, and organize coaching resources.
Key Responsibilities & Focus Areas:
- Development Pathway:
Design and maintain a structured goaltender development path that outlines core skills, progression benchmarks, and age-appropriate development goals. - Clinics & Skill Development:
Coordinate goaltending clinics throughout the season to provide goaltenders with quality instruction in technical, tactical, and mental aspects of the game. - Evaluation Process:
Lead the goaltender evaluation process for both WBHL and Travel teams to ensure fair, consistent, and transparent assessments. - Team Placement:
Collaborate with Division Directors to ensure goalies are placed on teams that match their development level, maximizing opportunity and enjoyment. - Affiliation & Development Planning:
Work with Division Directors to create goalie affiliation plans that give goaltenders additional ice time and opportunities for growth in higher-level games and practices. - Emergency Goalie Replacement:
Oversee and support all Division Directors in the implementation of the Emergency Goaltender Replacement Policy in accordance with Hockey Alberta guidelines. - Parent & Director Liaison:
Act as the central point of contact for goalie parents and Division Directors to support ongoing development, communication, and resolution of any goalie-specific concerns. - Equipment Collaboration:
Work closely with the Equipment Director to ensure safe, well-fitted, and reliable goalie equipment is available, especially for U9 and Intro to Hockey programs where quality starter gear is critical. - Goaltender Communications & Resources:
- FMMHA Goaltender Facebook Page: Oversee, maintain, and regularly update the FMMHA Goaltender Facebook page with clinic dates, tips, resources, and goalie news.
- Website Resource Hub: Develop and implement the framework for a Goaltender Resources section on fmmha.com, providing online access to videos, development plans, policies, equipment guides, and more.
