Huskies Female Excellence Scholarship

The Female Development Program strives to support all females in sport by creating an environment where players, coaches, trainers, and administrators can participate and compete with their peers while pursuing their highest levels of commitment and excellence.

Our philosophy is to grow female participation in sport by instilling confidence and empowerment through positive experiences and development opportunities. Players are prepared with the knowledge and skills to progress to the next level both on and off the ice.

This award celebrates female athletes who have excelled as outstanding and coachable teammates and as program ambassadors, serving as excellent role models for younger female players.

Therefore, the Female Huskies Scholarship is open to any female player who participates in any program within FMMHA teams or any player who has moved on to play AA or AAA hockey within our catchment in St. Albert. The scholarship will be awarded to one female athlete who best exemplifies the values of the Female Huskies program, including community involvement and personal growth.

Application Deadline

Applicants must:

  • Be in their graduating year of U18 or a female player accepted to further their development in a female program or planning to attend post-secondary education (including trades).
  • Be a permanent resident of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.
  • Demonstrate a satisfactory attitude and effort in high school subjects.
  • Exhibit an exceptional attitude and a strong commitment on and off the ice to their team — specifically in sportsmanship, team play, attitude, and dedication to the game.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership within the community through volunteerism and giving back to the community.

Selection Procedure

Applicants must complete the application form in full and provide three reference letters in support of their application:

  • One letter from an educator verifying the player’s commitment and dedication to their school studies, including any participation in extracurricular activities within the school.
  • One letter from a coach describing the player’s character and coachability, and explaining how this player specifically makes an excellent role model.
  • One letter from a community member or parent outlining the values the applicant has gained from hockey, demonstrating a well-rounded individual.

A panel comprised of representatives from the community will select the recipient based on consideration of academic achievement, hockey dedication, and community leadership.
