FMMHA Leadership in Officiating Scholarship

The Officiating Program is a vital pillar of the FMMHA association, providing young athletes with the opportunity to develop leadership, accountability, and a deep understanding of the game. Players can begin officiating at 13 years old, often balancing their roles as both a player and a dedicated official, contributing many hours to supporting the hockey community.

Officiating requires commitment, as officials must continually refine their skills and complete annual classroom sessions to maintain their certifications. This dedication helps shape them into highly skilled and disciplined individuals both on and off the ice. Strong communication skills and the ability to manage conflict effectively are essential qualities of a successful official, ensuring the game is played fairly and respectfully.

This award recognizes a U18-aged official who has been officiating for a minimum of two years and has demonstrated a strong work ethic, academic achievement, and a passion for the game. The recipient will be a well-rounded individual who has maintained acceptable grades, shown strong communication and conflict resolution skills, and plans to continue officiating in the upcoming season.
