Officials Development Director

The Officials Program Director is responsible for supporting the growth, visibility, and day-to-day coordination of the FMMHA Officials Program. Reporting directly to the Referee-in-Chief, this role serves as a key liaison between officials, parents, division directors, and the referee leadership team to ensure a well-rounded, transparent, and supportive environment for officials of all levels.

Estimated Time Commitment: 20 hours per month

Skills and Qualities

The ideal nominee will possess the following:

  • Strong Communication and Interpersonal Skills – Demonstrates the ability to effectively engage with officials of all ages and experience levels, mentors, committee members, and other stakeholders with diplomacy and professionalism.
  • Officiating and Development Experience – Brings experience in officiating and/or officiating program development, with an understanding of mentorship, training, and progressive development models. Familiarity with FMMHA operations and the local officiating environment is an asset.
  • Organizational and Time Management Skills – Capable of coordinating multiple development sessions, tracking evaluations, and updating resources across the season in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Adaptability and Problem-Solving – Able to respond quickly and effectively to emerging needs, scheduling challenges, and evolving developmental priorities within the officiating program.
  • Leadership and Collaboration – Confident in facilitating development discussions, leading clinics and workshops, and working in close partnership with the Referee-in-Chief, senior officials, and FMMHA committees.
  • Technical Proficiency – Comfortable using digital tools such as Gmail, Google Docs, spreadsheets, scheduling platforms (e.g., Arbiter), and capable of updating web content and coordinating communications through email and online resources.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and update the Officials Development webpage with resources, clinic info, and pathway visuals.
  • Develop a structured Officials Development Pathway outlining growth stages, expectations, and opportunities for new and returning officials.
  • Coordinate and schedule officials development clinics, workshops, and specialty sessions (e.g., game management, rules review, video sessions).
  • Organize and support the officials evaluation process, working with mentors and the Referee-in-Chief to provide consistent feedback and progression tracking.
  • Collaborate with Division Directors and senior officials to support appropriate game assignments and ongoing mentorship.
  • Work to secure ice and schedule professional development sessions such as power skating and off-ice training for officials.
  • Reports to VP Development and works closely with the Officials Program Director.   Will Sit on the Development committee and the Officials Committee
