Director, Female Hockey Development

The Director of Female Development plays a key leadership role in supporting, promoting, and advocating for the development and well-being of all female players and coaches within FMMHA. This position ensures female athletes receive equitable development opportunities and fosters a welcoming and inclusive environment across all teams and programs.

Skills and Qualities

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following:

  • Experience coaching in minor hockey and a strong understanding of Hockey Canada’s development model.

  • A passion for developing female players, Coaches and Officials at all levels of play within the organization.

  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively with coaches, players, and other stakeholders.

  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and mentoring abilities.

  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

  • Ability to plan and coordinate coach-focused training and engagement initiatives through development partners.

  • Proficiency with online tools and platforms to share, manage, and organize coaching resources.

Key Responsibilities & Focus Areas:

    • Female-Focused Events & Engagement:

      • Plan and facilitate World Girls Hockey Day and Come Try It Skates in collaboration with the Special Events and Operations Committees to promote participation and visibility of girls in hockey.

    • Program Development & Support:

      • Work with Huskies program leadership and Division Directors to secure and coordinate female-specific development sessions for all girls in the WBHL, regardless of team structure (female or co-ed).

      • Partner with the Coach Development Director to actively recruit and support the growth of female coaches.

    • Policy Oversight & Inclusiveness:

      • Oversee and maintain compliance with female-specific policies and protocols, including areas such as dressing room guidelines and player accommodations.

      • Work with coaches to ensure inclusive team environments for female players on mixed (co-ed) teams.

    • Advocacy & Mentorship:

      • Act as an advocate and mentor for all female players and parents within FMMHA.

      • Provide support and guidance in discipline processes, including assisting with the completion of educational or corrective actions (e.g., course requirements, suspensions).

    Support and facilitate leadership development sessions for female players and coaches.
