
Director, Player Development
The Director of Player Development plays a key role in enhancing the skill development of all players within FMMHA. This position is responsible for the planning, coordination, and execution of both preseason and in-season development programming across all divisions, in collaboration with division leadership and external development partners.

Skills and Qualities
The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following:

Experience coaching in minor hockey and a strong understanding of Hockey Canada’s development model.

A passion for developing players at all levels of play within the organization.

Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively with coaches, players, and other stakeholders.

Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and mentoring abilities.

Strong communication and organizational skills.

Ability to plan and coordinate coach-focused training and engagement initiatives through development partners.

Proficiency with online tools and platforms to share, manage, and organize coaching resources.
Key Responsibilities & Focus Areas:
- First Shift Event Coordination:
- Lead the planning and delivery of the “First Shift” Event or Hockey Day, welcoming new players and families into the game through an organized, engaging introduction to hockey.
- Preseason Development Coordination:
- Work with the Ice Allocator, Division Directors, and approved Development Partners to organize and deliver preseason development programming for all divisions.
- Ensure ice is allocated fairly and programming is delivered consistently to all eligible players.
- In-Season Development Oversight:
- Coordinate in-season development opportunities for teams with professional development partners.
- Monitor delivery to ensure all teams receive their allocated development sessions as promised by league or association guidelines.
- Resolve scheduling or delivery issues in collaboration with Division Directors and partners.
- Development Weekends:
- Plan and coordinate Development Weekends throughout the season, offering extra skill sessions, specialty programming (e.g., skating, shooting, checking), or position-specific clinics.
- Program Monitoring & Communication:
- Maintain open communication with Division Directors, Coaches, and Development Partners to gather feedback and adjust programs where needed.
- Actively monitor the effectiveness and accessibility of development initiatives.
