Special Events Committee

The Special Events Committee plays a vital role in creating memorable experiences for our players, families, and community throughout the hockey season. Beyond the games on the ice, this committee ensures that our association is celebrated through well-organized tournaments, community engagement, and team-building events that strengthen the spirit of hockey in Fort McMurray.

Vice President of Communications(currently Jacinda Davis) and reports to the Executive Board.

Special milestone events that celebrate and inspire players, including Female Hockey Day and the Last Shift Celebration.

What the Committee Does:

Planning and Delivering Tournaments – Coordinating the annual Oilsands Classic tournaments for U7, U11, U13, and U15, ensuring a fun, competitive, and well-organized experience for all participants.
Supporting Division Event Chairs – Providing oversight, resources, and guidance to the Classic Chairs and their committees to ensure consistency across all divisions.
Female Hockey Day – Organizing and celebrating a day dedicated to female athletes, promoting participation, inclusion, and recognition of female hockey players in our association.
Last Shift Celebration – Hosting a special event for our graduating players to recognize their contributions, celebrate their journey in minor hockey, and mark the transition to the next chapter of their lives.
Sponsorship & Fundraising – Securing sponsorships, donations, and community support to help fund prizes, awards, and event enhancements.
Community Engagement – Coordinating special activities during events (e.g., scavenger hunts, team welcome packages, action photos) to create a positive and memorable experience.
Volunteer Coordination – Working with division directors and the volunteer coordinator to ensure that each event has the support needed for smooth delivery.
Recognition – Ensuring sponsors, volunteers, and participants are acknowledged and celebrated for their contributions to the success of our events.
