
The Development Committee is responsible for supporting the growth and sustainability of hockey operations within the association through strategic partnerships with Hockey Alberta, professional development initiatives, and the pursuit of funding opportunities that benefit programs and players. The committee is led by the Vice President of Development (currently Kyle Borle) and reports to the Executive Board.
What the Committee Does:
- Grant and Funding Opportunities: Investigates and identifies potential grants and funding sources from government and sporting agencies to support hockey programming and increase opportunities for players, coaches, managers, and specialty streams (e.g., Female, Indigenous, Defence, Goaltending, Officials).
- Development Partner Policy: Oversees the association’s Development Partner Policy, including the selection, evaluation, and management of development partners and the execution of contractual agreements.
- Pre-Season Programming: Coordinates and delivers pre-season development opportunities in collaboration with the Ice Allocator and Division Directors.
- Goaltending Evaluations: Plans and delivers WBHL goaltending evaluations to support team formation and player placement.
- Junior Coach Program: Defines and delivers the Junior Coach Program, supporting the integration of youth mentors into grassroots hockey.
- Young Coach Development: Develops and implements programming for newly graduated players transitioning into coaching roles.
- Strategic Planning: Supports long-term planning related to program development and external partnerships to ensure alignment with the association’s strategic goals.
